Eagle Cliff

Report Summary

After we got settled into our cabin, a quick evening hike was in order. Since our cabin is at the southeast foot of Eagle Cliff, that's what we chose. We've all done this one more than once, because we stay at the Swiftcurrent Lodge every year. It's short, but fairly steep. And because there's no official trail, at least from this side, it becomes spotty in places, and so our route is always a little different. You can climb this from the Moraine Park Museum, and there is also a trail from the storage area beyond the back country office. Sandy descended down to the museum once, otherwise, we've always gone up from the cabin.

On this occasion, we contoured a bit too far beyond the summit, before turning up to the final ascent. When we started up, the weather was sunny with clouds off to the west. By the time we were leaving the summit, clouds were approaching Twin Sisters, and had hidden Longs Peak. Later, back at the cabin, we had some brief thunder showers. It was a nice little hike to get our vacation started. It's not big, but the views are nice, and it's good exercise at 1000ft gain in a mile. On a down note, there was a lot of graffiti, of the so-and-so loves so-and-so sort, on the summit rocks. And no, I didn't take any pictures of it. There was no graffiti last August when I climbed up there.
