Beaver Mountain Trail

July 30th, 2008

Report Summary

With a major hike, Mt Alice, just around the corner, we opted for an easier hike today. The trail head is at the end of the Beaver Meadows road. Beaver Mountain trail is a 5 mile loop that crosses the lower eastern slopes of Beaver Mountain and guides you through a variety of beautiful Beaver Meadow landscapes. Since it's centrally located and fairly easy, I expected to see more people, but we were alone on the trail. I suppose "just" being a plain walk through woods and meadow doesn't attract a lot of attention. Likely more folks head up the Ute trail instead. The weather was perfect, and the trail was peaceful. There were ample views of Longs and much of the continental divide. I'd like to hike on this one again, extending it with a little bushwhacking. First to the summit of Beaver Mountain and then to Point 11338 just east of Tombstone Ridge. From there, it looks like a possible loop arcing northeast down to Many Curves Park on Trail Ridge Road and back down to the Beaver Mountain trail.
