Mills to Haiyaha

August 2nd, 2008

Report Summary

While Sandy and Ali hiked the Thatchtop-Shelf Lake loop, I visited a few lakes. First though, I hiked around on the base of Thatchtop to take a few pictures. I briefly considered continuing up, but figured I'd never catch up to Sandy and Ali. Plus, the last few days I'd been developing blisters and the thought of climbing down from the summit was not appealing. So I headed out to Mills Lake as planned and snapped a few pictures. After a quick snack, I went back to the Loch Vale-Mills trail junction and decided to follow the route that leads to Lake Haiyaha. It was a very nice morning and the walk to the lake was pretty and peaceful.

I relaxed at the lake for a while taking pictures, enjoying the views, and having brunch. No rush, as I had a much lighter itinerary than Ali and Sandy. As more hikers started arriving at the lake, I took my leave and continued towards Nymph Lake. I took a quick look at Dream Lake on the way by but didn't stay long since it was getting busy on the trail. I stopped again for pictures at Nymph and Bear Lakes. Then I took the shuttle back down to the Glacier Gorge TH to wait for Sandy and Ali. This was a pretty loop, and the Loch and Emerald Lake could be added to make it complete.
